let's talk localspecies
Since the Second Dreaming on Furcadia, localspecies (commonly referred to as 'locals') are the new standard for avatars/sprites. We are working on expanding the available avatars in Snowside Peak (join the discord for updates!), but for veterans of the dream there have been some slight changes on the colour remaps!
If you don't arrive in the dream as our localspecies, you can use the command !locals to see all the available species and their commands—!back to go back to default.
You can also select the !locals menu button, between the text and game areas.
This menu allows you to see your current colours on all our avatars, and select them without spoken commands.
!back will turn off localspecies and allow you to see your default avatar or digo. See 'why can't I see my digo?'
brief history
Snowside Peak began around early February 2007. Since then, SSP undergone countless changes and iterations—the all-purpose 'husky' avatar being one of the most notable.
This timeline includes all our original avatars/sprites, and the month and year of the last recorded file save.. with the newest being SSP's official rebirth in January 2020 (pre-COVID)!
!husky
Designed to primarily suit northern or 'husky' type breeds.
There are a couple variations of this avatar that allow for better character representation! Check out the !locals to see what's available :)
!human
This is the avatar you should arrive as if you are using the female "Hyooman" avatar, and is a heavily modified version of the Furcadia's paid-for "Noble Hyooman" avatar.
We intend to have masculine and unspecified here soon™!
!cat
This is one of our newer additions, catering to our beloved feline population. While these little guys are not completely finished yet, they're certainly playable in their current state.
We see these getting more cat-like remaps in the future!
!wolf
As our holiday release for 2023, and our newest addition, the wolf avatar finally begins our journey into wild creatures!
There is no restriction on where or how you use these avatars, but we're looking to build out a more "wild" area very soon!
why can't I see my digo?
Unfortunately, locals override ALL default avatars including any paid avatars (known as digos). If you'd like to use your digo, simply use the !back command* :)
NOTE: This also affects consuming in-game items! When you eat an item that changes your appearance (it will tell you or at least give a hint), use the !back command. Perhaps one day this will not be the case; sorry for any inconvenience!
*Default anthro avatars will be automatically changed back to our locals, meaning you will not be able to see wings on default anthro furred avatars. This may also affect furred Noble avatars.
